Going with no particular theme this month, I thought I would share a few sites that may or may not relate to integrating technology specifically, but that you might find useful or interesting regardless.

Zip Skinnyzipskinny.jpg

The first is ZipSkinny. It's a tool that gives you U.S. Census data for any zip code that you'd like. Once you have entered the zip code and received the census data, you can then compare that data to up to 20 other zip codes of your choice. There are a variety of tabs at the top that offer different types of demographic information for that zip code including breakdowns for the schools in that area. Keep in mind the data is not for 2008, but it may be useful for students who need data sets to make comparisons, create graphs, draw conclusions, etc.

Pixton

This website is a cartoon creator using simple stick-type figures, backgrounds, speech bubbles, and props. You can't configure your characters too much, but in a way that's helpful because it means students will spend more time on the content. The cartoon embedded below was created in about 15 minutes. An account is required, but it's free and fun to use. Practice yourself before getting students involved. And the great part is that whatever students create can be embedded in a class wiki or blog! That's always a useful feature.
